DEEP PURPLE PROJECT
DEEP PURPLE : Conversion of diluted mixed urban bio-wastes into sustainable materials and products in flexible purple photobiorefineries.
DEEP PURPLE aims to transform diluted urban bio-wastes, including mixed waste streams, organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW), wastewater (WW) and sewage sludge (SS), into feedstock for bio-industry to obtain sustainable bio-products.
This revolutionary concept will be implemented in a novel Single-Site Multi-Platform Concept (Biomass, Cellulose and Biogas) to replace current polluting destructive practices with new value-added concepts.
Several high added value bio-products will be produced during the project:
- Cosmeceuticals products based on ectoine
- Biobased materials for packaging applications based on PHA and CNFs (cellulose nanofibrils) compounds
- Biobased polyesters for films applications
- Self-healing material for construction sector
- Slow-release Organic fertilizer
“This project has received funding from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 837998. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio Based Industries Consortium.””
- 14 partners
- Budget of 9.5 M€
- Financiers: European Commission (H2020)
- Execution period: 2019 – 2023
NaturePlast is in charge of Work Package 4:
Industrial application of materials and products. NaturePlast also conducts R&D operations for the formulation and production of compounds based on the PHAs and CNFs produced by the project pilot. Thanks to its expertise and its dedicated equipment, it implements and characterizes the compounds based on PHAs and CNFs obtained from the biorefinery.
