Reduction of marine pollution generated by fishing activities and aquaculture

OBJECTIVES

INdIGO project aims to reduce marine litter generated by fishing activities and aquaculture. It features two main objectives:

To develop innovative fishing gears more respectful of the marine environment.
To improve prevention and management of pollution generated by fishing gear.

The main expected result is to develop two fishing gear prototypes featuring resistance and controlled lifetime.

The INdiGO project covers all aspects of net development including the supply chain, manufacturing, prototype development, testing and technical and economic analysis. A lifecycle analysis will also be performed.

The INdIGO project includes an educational part through the development of an application to locate the lost fishing gears, linked to fishing activities and aquaculture. This app enables to map marine litter in Channel area and to raise awareness among divers, walkers and fishermen:

NATUREPLAST’S ROLE

NaturePlast is in charge of writing specifications for the new fishing gears.
NaturePlast is also leader of R&D operations for the formulation and compounds production based on bioplastics featuring biodegradation ability, together with Filt and UBS. Thanks to its expertise and dedicated equipments, NaturePlast will process and characterize the new developed formulation.
