Phactus

PHACTUS is developing a continuous production process for PHA, intended for various industrial applications.

Objectives

The PHACTUS project aims to develop a continuous production process for PHA, biodegradable polymers produced from municipal organic waste and sludge from wastewater treatment. The resulting materials could be used in construction, agriculture, composites, and packaging. Digital monitoring and control tools will help ensure reliable production.

The project has several objectives:

  • Set up a pilot plant for the continuous production of PHA .
  • To demonstrate the feasibility of ready-to-use biodegradable polymers for various industrial applications.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint across the entire life cycle by more than 50 percent, compared to PHA production from crops.
  • Reduce the production cost of PHAs to €3/kg or less.
  • Assess the feasibility of replicating this model in different regions of Europe.
