PACKING

The packaging sector is one of the main areas of application for bioplastics, thanks to their adaptability and functional properties.

The food packaging market has historically been one of the first to use bioplastic materials.

Today, it remains one of their main outlets, mainly in rigid packaging (water or soft drinks bottles in biobased PET, dairy product bottles in biobased PE, PLA trays, etc.) and flexible packaging (primary or secondary packaging films in biobased PE or PLA, etc.).

ADVANTAGES

  • Compatible with existing processes
  • Suitable for food contact
  • Barrier properties
  • Mostly biobased
  • Biodegradability (domestic or industrial compost)
  • Potential improvement in environmental footprint

Packaging is also often single-use, which makes the use of biodegradable polymers all the more relevant, especially those that can be directly composted at home.

Bioplastics make it possible to produce strong, lightweight, customizable packaging, while meeting specific needs such as food preservation or compatibility with thermoforming and sealing processes.
